What kind of place is it?

Pittodrie Stadium is the home ground of Aberdeen Football Club, the city's professional football team. On match days the surrounding streets fill with supporters in red, and the stadium's position — a short walk from both the city centre and the beach — makes it easy to fold a game into a weekend. Visiting supporters and neutral visitors alike should check ticket arrangements in advance through the club.

A short history

Football has been played at Pittodrie since the end of the nineteenth century, and the ground has been home to Aberdeen FC since the club was formed in 1903. The stands have been rebuilt over the decades, and it became one of the earlier grounds in Britain to be converted to all-seated use. The Broad Hill, a grassy rise between the stadium and the beach, gives an outside view over the ground and the coast.

Visitor information

  • Getting there: from Union Street it is roughly a twenty-minute walk via King Street; several bus routes run along King Street.
  • Tickets: buy only through the club's official channels, and check any membership or segregation rules for the fixture.
  • Match days: streets nearby are busy before and after kick-off and on-street parking is restricted; walking or taking the bus is simplest.
  • Accessibility: contact the club for accessible seating arrangements.

How it fits your trip

Home fixtures increase demand for rooms in the city, especially on Saturdays, so check the fixture list when choosing dates. On non-match days, the area makes a good link between the beach esplanade, Footdee and Old Aberdeen — the Broad Hill viewpoint is worth the short climb at any time.

Highland Stays is independent of Pittodrie Stadium. Programmes, opening times and ticketing change — always check the venue's own website before you travel.
